ROCKETS EDGE FALCONS 28-21

Toledo remained unbeaten in MAC play, but it certainly wasn't easy at a windy Doyt Perry Stadium in Bowling Green.

The Rockets drove to the BG 23-yard line on their first possession of the game, but a missed field goal kept them off the scoreboard. UT's next six possessions of the first half were frustrating as five ended in punts and only twice were they able to drive inside the Falcon's forty yard line.

Bowling Green faced many of the same offensive struggles, until a desperation pass into the end-zone was caught by BG's Kamar Jordan to give BG a 7-0 lead with one tick remaining on the clock.

With the Rocket offense struggling in the first half, UT got some good play, especially from the defensive line, to keep the game close.

The second have was a different story for Toledo's offense. The Rockets scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the third quarter as the running game finally started to show some life. David Fluellen (3 yards) and Morgan Williams (6 yards) gave UT a 14-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

BG's Jordan Hopgood opened the scoring in the final period with a one yard run.

UT was able to answer as Taikwon Page intercepted a Matt Schilz pass, and a BG penalty on the play placed the ball on the Falcon's 33. Three plays later Williams was in the end-zone.

With Toledo on top 21-14. BG drove to the Rocket six-yard line, but the Falcons were stopped on third and fourth down attempts by the defensive line.

Needing to run out the clock, Toledo quarterback Terrance Owens came up with a big play on third-and-nine from the UT eight-yard line when he connected with sophomore WR Bernard Reedy for 59 yards. The Rockets seemingly wrapped up the win three plays later when Williams dashed 24 yards to put Toledo up by two touchdowns with just 1:20 to play.

On a decision that has to be second-guessed, the Rockets decided to kick deep, even though BG's excellent return man, BooBoo Gates was back deep for the Falcons. Gates returned the kickoff 88 yards and BG still had a chance to pull out the win. A Bowling Green on-side kick attempt sailed out of bounds and Toledo was able to run out the clock and claim the new Battle of I-75 Trophy.

Toledo won the battle of offensive yardage 456 to 343. Owens completed 9 of 14 passes for 158 yards while Williams' 138 rushing yards led Toledo. Desmond Marrow had ten tackles to lead UT defenders.
